Adrienne Erin has more advice on how to Breaking Out of Your Comfort Zone: Without Losing Yourself. Take a look at Part One.
Start With Small Steps: Find a Healthy Balance
Even though it is recommended to discover a little bit of heightened anxiety to boost performance, too much can be detrimental to your health. Instead of constantly putting yourself on edge, try a few small changes every day. In the long run, this will greatly impact your life and help you discover new ideas and perspectives.
Alter Your Routines
Each morning, change the way you start your day. You can change the time you wake up or the order in which you do things. For example, you can take a different route to work to explore some of the beautiful landscapes you may take for granted every day.
Experience Different Cuisines
Try a different restaurant or a different style of dining. If you’re used to fast food and quick dining, slow down and experience dining-in. Never had Thai food before? Research some of the best restaurants and be open to recommendations. Feeling brave? Randomly order something off the menu.
Expand Your Mind
Become a life-long learner and discover different reading content. We tend to fall under “confirmation bias” or reading something we agree with, which can be limiting. Try bettering yourself by becoming more educated about topics so you can feel comfortable having new conversations. Additionally, this practice can help with breaking out of like-minded ideas.
On the Web
Since technology has helped us expand our minds, you can take this one step further and receive random content from the Internet. Simple changes like receiving inbox articles like “Send Me A Story” or changing your start page with Wikipedia Random, you can read different points of view without leaving the comfort of your chair.
In Our Lives
Join a book club and be open to your friends, co-workers and family’s suggestions. They can help you expand your mind and try things you wouldn’t normally pick up and read.
Putting It all Together…The Benefits
Keeping an open mind and stepping out of your comfort zone will help you become more productive in your daily life. Since you are taking on small challenges, you will find more ease with deadlines and expectations as they come. Additionally, breaking out of your box will promote more drive and ambition, allowing you push your boundaries and harness your creativity. Take on a small challenge everyday to lead a happy and healthy life.
