Staying focused on work and achieving our goal is never easy. Our distractions and excuses have the power to keep us from moving forward. In order to keep us on track we have to find a way to not let our distractions sidetrack us.
My distraction is procrastination because it’s so easy to find a way to not do something. On several occasions I’ve found myself putting something off till the last minute and then rushing to get it done. While I finish what I need to do, it doesn’t allow me the time to do the work well.
My first year of high school I had a class project and I forgot to do it till the day before it was due. That night I threw it all together on a poster board then presented it to the class the next day. After class my friend, who is always straight with me, said that my project looked like my little brother did it. Even though I didn’t spend a lot of time on it I felt bad because I knew I could do better.
Since then I’ve started to schedule time to work that way I can get things done and produce quality work. Distractions can make us do things half way or not at all which doesn’t work in the real world. When our distractions are in control we won’t get a promotion or achieve because we are not doing our best. We have to shake off our distraction urges in order to get where we want to go.
