How To Be Content Where You Are Right Now

Have you ever thought about asking God how this season is a part of your story? I questioned mine a few weeks ago as I ended a long day at my day job. In my frustration I just couldn’t see how this present season is leading me to where I want to be?

It can be hard sometimes to have dreams you’re working towards and don’t see them coming together. You know, when you’re trying to get a promotion and get passed up. The relationship you’ve poured yourself into doesn’t work out. In the moments when you’re trying to do right and everything seems to be going wrong.

These are the times when my brain goes into overdrive trying to figure out how things will work out. Then when I reach a massive headache I remember that only God knows the plan. So where do we go when we don’t like where we are in life?

Comfort in Where You Are

As I the feeling of discontentment continued I decided to take it God. Grabbing my journal I started writing a letter to lay my thought at His feet. As I was writing I heard a small voice telling me to look at how far I’ve come.

In 2010 I was apartment hunting and fell in love with a place that had everything I wanted. Everything from the floor plan to the closet space was perfect. In my head I started planning where all my stuff would go.

The problem was it was that it was way out of my budget. Regardless of how I tried to work it in financially, I wasn’t in a place to get the apartment. So I would just look at the brochure wishing that someday I could have what I wanted.

Thinking about that apartment picture sent me on a scavenger hunt to find it. By looking at that picture I discovered that my house now is that layout. I often prayed for God to change that season so I could afford that place. Little did I know that instead of changing my season He used it to prepare me to receive my blessing.

Respect the Process

That small voice reminded me that everything worthwhile needs time to be prepared for. Ecclesiastes 3 teaches us there is a season for sowing and reaping. So where I am right now isn’t about what I can see but a part of the process.

My friend LaKesha Womack wrote a book entitled Success Secrets for the Young & Fabulous. There, she discusses finding peace in your journey and explains how we need to trust God. Even though it may seem things are out of place, we are where we are meant to be.

This time I spent with God giving Him my discontentment served as a reminder that He’s in control. He’s fully aware of the season that I’m in and what will be produced from it. Our faith has to be fueled by God’s truth rather than our feelings.

How to Wait Gracefully

Now the question is what do we do while we wait for it all to come together? First we have to practice patience, which may seem passive by actually builds endurance. In waiting patiently on the Lord our faith is strengthened.

Second we have to completely rely on God’s plan versus what we see. Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to trust in the Lord with all our heart and not our own understanding. Since we don’t know the whole plan we have to rely on the one who can.

Finally, we should have confidence in God’s timing. Remember that nothing, not even what we currently see, last forever. He will give us strength to endure till it’s time to reap what was sown in faith.

Through patience, faith, and relying on God we will find contentment in where we are right now. Then we will be able to look back and see how He used this time to prepare us for something greater.

I couldn’t say it better myself. As I mentioned I’ve started to see this in my own life and now I’m seeing it in the lives of my friends and family. It’s amazing to me how some situations that we think are going to stop us take us to that next level.

      Thanks for comment!

This speaks volumes. There is always a lesson to be learned at every stage in life. We can’t move forward until we have learned the appropriate lessons. At the same time we have to remember not to rush our dreams and goals and let them happen when they are supposed to happen.

I completely agree with you. I view my life that way too with every situation I’m in being a lesson that I need to master. I know that I’ve had to redo the patience lesson a couple of times, but I’ve gotten a lot better.

As you mentioned to we can’t rush anything, especially our dreams. If we do then we won’t appreciate them and the work it took to get there. So as you said ”let things happen” the way that they are supposed to happen.

One of the greatest joys as a writer is for someone to really get what you are trying to say… I am so happy that that passage spoke to you and where you are right now. I hope you continue to enjoy “Success Secrets for the Young & Fabulous”!

I’ve really enjoyed reading your book. It’s really put a lot of life situations and thoughts into perspective. When I read the passage that I wrote about in this post I was actually thinking about some personal situations and wondering why I was going through it. So I see it as a passage that I was destined to read that day.

Hopefully this post will help others and they can also get your book as well. Thank you!

Definitely get LaKesha’s book because I’m enjoying reading it. Part of me wants her to write a continuation of this book, if that’s possible, because I don’t want this one to end. She covers so many topics in this book that I’m sure that something will reach out to you like this part did for me.

I’m happy that you enjoyed this post and could relate to it! Thanks!

I’ve had to have this at the back of my mind these last few months. Some things just don’t pan out the way you expect it to and you get really down in the dumps about it and you just got to say to yourself “this is a dot that I’m going to eventually connect in my life. I might not know what it means now but I’ll keep the dot until I see the bigger picture.”

@Ambitious Curls I definitely understand where you are coming from and I’ve been there too. It’s hard to see when you’re in the mist of everything, but it will. Just keep pushing forward and know that it will all come together. In the end you will see all it all worked together.
