Where are you and caring for yourself on your to do list? Our list of responsibilities are always growing and too often we end up being last. We forget to eat a meal, go to bed, or even take care of things that matter to us. Have you ever stopped to ask why everything else become more of a priority than taking care of ourselves?
I was watching Beyoncé’s ‘I AM… SASHA FIERCE’ concert documentary on television and during one of the interview section gave me some insight into how stressful it can be on her. The documentary gave a inside look into what it takes for her to do a world tour and put on shows. However, after the process to do it all makes her tired, stressed, and feeling alone. She said that many times when she was traveling alone it seemed like no one around cared about her and her needs, she was not as important as the performance.
The same happens to us when we live our lives for others and we’re constantly going and going. Our thoughts are all about what needs to be done, that our well-being become less of a priority. Part of the reason that I decided to move to the city I’m in now when compared to staying where I was is because I wanted to be closer to my family. I knew that would make them happy, and hoped that I would find my way at the same time. Looking back I see that my priorities should have been more about my happiness and well-being instead of other people.
I write all of this to say that you there is nothing in this world that should come before taking care of yourself and your happiness. If you’re not taken care of and happy it will show in other areas of your life and the way you work. The list, the people, and the work will always be there, so we have to take on what we can when we can. If your focus is on everything and everyone else, then why should we expect for someone to be worried about us?
