A new year is here and now that the festivities are over the realization that I’m facing a 2013 is on my mind. What will this year hold? Will this be my year of success or will this be a year that I can’t wait to end? With these thoughts on my mind I decided to revert back to my normal practice when I get ready for a new year.
On December 31st I sit down and review the goals that I wrote out for myself and look back at my year to review what I’ve accomplished. This year has definitely been a roller coast for me, but overall I’ve accomplished a lot. As I went through the list I realized that despite my setbacks I accomplished more than I thought. Compared to the beginning of the year I’ve come a long way and see that it’s possible to go even further.
What I learned most from looking back on my 2012 experience is that focusing solely on what did happen or get done doesn’t get us anywhere. So I didn’t exercise very much or get the jobs I wanted, but I was able to buy a car and go on a real vacation along with so much more. Those are the things that I need to keep in mind because when we focus on our past success then more will come our way.
A friend once told me that our mindset determines where we are and where we will be in the future. I don’t want my mind to be stuck on all my setbacks and regrets, but on what I did and where I’m trying to go. That way when 2014 comes around I will be able to mark all my goals off and look back with a smile.
