Recently it seems like being nice to other people is out and having an attitude or making a scene gets a person what they want. Think about it, people that hurt, belittle, or manipulate others seem to get the upper hand compared to those that are nice. How come being mean gets people farther than being nice?
Many people know that I am not a fan of the management at my apartment complex. They are very slow in taking care of problems and act as though they don’t care about their residence. A couple of weeks ago my AC went out and I informed them about it; for three days I told them. On the fourth day with no air, I called and in a rude and loud tone I told them I wanted it fixed or my rent for the month to be prorate. They came out and fixed it about twenty minutes later.
As much as I don’t like my apartment complex, I feel bad about the way that I acted towards them. However, it seems like when one would ask others nicely for things, nothing would get done. It even happens in the business world, some will throw others under the bus, try to get them fired, or worse to have the upper hand. So it seems like doing things in a mean or rude manner pays off.
There has to come a time when there is going to be a basic understanding towards one another. Does being mean get someone anywhere? Maybe for a little while, but karma always comes back around.
