With this week being the final days of 2011, it’s easy to look over our this time and lump it into one category. Our mind can highlight only the good or bad moments, but then we’re not getting the right perspective. If we’re focused on just the good or the bad then how can we see our growth?
Over the weekend I was hanging out with my friend and his mom and we were talking about our year. When I started talking about I knew that I was defining this year by the last couple of months. The feeling of loss with my job and having to move along with adjusting to my new surrounding has made things hard. With that being my current life, I couldn’t see this year outside of that.
My friend’s mom pointed out to me how this year has had some good times and accomplishments for me outside of these past couple of months. She reminded me of how much I’ve grown since the beginning of this year, and as she gave examples I became surprised that I forgot about it. It was as though my mind could only see the last few months instead of assessing the whole year.
Once I changed my mindset I saw that this year wasn’t that bad despite my recent problems. I became more thankful for what I was able to do and get accomplished. Now that I have the right perspective about this year, I can see 2012 more clearly and a better attitude.
