Every new year we talk about making resolutions and going after new dreams and goals. It’s an exciting time because the possibilities are endless and it’s promising to think of things that we can achieve. While it’s great to have new dreams my mind has been on the old ones, or to be more specific the ones that we’ve given up on. Is this the time to resurrect our dead dreams?
Over the years I’ve given up or talked myself out of dreams that at one point I was so excited about. My mind would say if it hasn’t happened now it never will, you missed your chance, you’re not meant to have that. While some dreams it was for the best to let them go, I’m not meant to be the next Serena Williams tennis star. There were others that I let go of too soon simply because I lost faith and optimism.
I was reading Ezekiel 37 about how the people of Israel were discouraged by their dreams because nothing seemed to be happening, so they lost hope. In a dream God told Ezekiel that He was going to bring back their hope and would fulfill what He promised them. In order for this to happen they needed to have faith again in the promise coming to fruition.
It’s natural to get discouraged when something you want doesn’t seem to be going our way, but don’t lose faith. God will complete the work that He has started in all of us. In turn it’s our job to continue to strive for the dreams regardless of when the world or circumstances make it seem as though things are not going to happen.
Channel your excitement for the new year into resurrecting the dead dreams that your heart still longs to accomplish. Then watch as the possibilities of this new year and your faith bring it back to life.
