Do you consider yourself a pretty independent woman? For a long time I prided myself on having a “I got this” attitude when I faced a problem. I used the idea concept of being independent as an excuse keep my burdens to myself because I believed that was what I was supposed to do. I slowly learned that doing this wasn’t making me strong but tearing me apart.
I would handle things myself and give God task here and there because I felt that I knew what was best. I wanted the satisfaction of figuring it out. So I continued on this path until one day I broke down and God was all that I had. My “I got this” attitude failed me.
Why We Don’t Ask Jesus
The problem is that I never truly had it handled, the reality was I was depending on everything else. We ask the people around us for advice, run through scenarios in our mind; slowly our burdens consume us. So while this is eating away at us and filling us with anxiety Jesus is waiting for us to turn to him.
The reason that we don’t give him our cares is because of our pride and lack of trust. We would rather try to handle our troubles instead of giving it to Jesus because we don’t know how things will work out. We don’t know if he will fix things the way we want, how long it will take, and believe in his ways.
It’s our lack of trust that’s keeping us from experiencing his rest and peace. We can’t keep anything from Jesus, he knows what we are going through and what we need. How long will we hold onto our troubles instead of laying them down at his feet?
Turn Over Your Cares
God wants you to cast all your cares on Him, not just the parts that you don’t mind him handling. We have to surrender all of our troubles, fears, pain, and weakness because he wants a relationship with us. He didn’t create us to live with anxiety but to live in peace.
Once I stopped trying to handle everything on my own and gave my burdens to him it was like a weight was lifted off me. He took my frustrations, fears, and emptiness and gave me rest. I learned I don’t have to have it all together because I have Jesus; he is my rock.
Establish a relationship with God, he’s love you so much. Speak with him the same way you would anyone else that you’re close to. Then be patient in waiting for his answer, no matter how long it takes, know he’s working it out for your good. (Philippians 4:6-7)
When you have faith in Jesus handling your problems and listen to his guidance you will make it through anything. Speak positive affirmations over your life that aligned with the word and use them to talk to your mountains.
Being independent doesn’t mean that you have to carry your burdens and walk through life alone. Let go of your “I got this” attitude and allow Him to walk with you. Lay your burdens down at the feet of Jesus and know he’s got you.
