How does a typical week for you go? Most likely there’s work, running errands, dealing with family, friends, social gatherings, and the list goes on and on. We often get so wrapped up in our daily schedule that we forget those around us, especially those who we don’t know and encounter for a moment. How come we can’t see that we all carry a story?
For the past couple of weeks some of my twitter followers and I have been working to compliment 5 women each day. As simple as it sounds, I’ve only been able to compliment 5 each week because of my schedule and not remembering to do it. Over the weekend I was talking to my friend about our efforts, and he brought up a great point that every person we encounter has a story to tell and could help us growth personally or professionally. It all depends on if take the time to talk with them and form those relationships.
I’ve never thought about my interactions that way before, but it makes sense that we all carry stories and opportunities that can contribute to another person’s growth and development. Our struggles, triumphs, and the people that we know make us who we are and other people have that too, and their stories may be similar to ours. It all comes down to us taking a little bit of time to start a conversation learn about one another.
This isn’t to say that we all need to have in-depth conversations with everyone we meet, we just need to be aware of one another. It’s easy to get stuck in our worlds, but there’s so much to discover when we learn from one another. All of us have a story in which we carry with us, all we need is someone to share it with.
