Earlier this year I attended the Fresh Grounded Faith conference where host Jennifer Rothschild had use repeat Psalms 62:6 over and over. While I knew that it was the theme of the conference I didn’t realize that she was planting a seed within us for shaky moments life holds.
I’ve expressed this in the past, but for those who don’t know, I love to have a plan. It gives me comfort and peace to know what’s going to happen next. However, life doesn’t follow any plan that we can create for ourselves. So when we are faced with challenges and uncertainty how do we remain unshakable?
When I’m faced with a situation that doesn’t have a plan I feel terrible anxiety. It puts me into a state of panic where I worry to no end and my blood pressure is probably through the roof. This was my life last month when I was faced with trying to find a new place to live.
House hunting is never as fun and magical as HGTV makes it out to be. My experience was touring homes that had great amenities but didn’t provide what I was looking for. After weeks of searching my anxiety about never finding a place in time for my move kicked in. My imagination started to wonder to moving into my parents’ house and having all my belongings in storage.
With my hopes of finding the perfect place out the window, I tried to fix the situation by staying where I was. Sadly I discovered someone already rented my current home. The plan I had for a no-sweat move had slipped away and I didn’t know where I was going to live.
It’s in the moments that we don’t know what’s going to happen next that Jesus calls us to lean on him. When we call on Jesus in the midst of trouble we find peace. These are the opportunities for us to trust Him in the middle of our uncertainty stand strong in His plan.
Too often we lean on our own understanding of a situation and miss what He’s trying to show us. We miss that fact that God has already provided a solution to every situation we face. Our focus shouldn’t be on solving the problem but the lesson He’s teaching.
When I stopped focusing on the problem and started looking to Jesus I remembered His faithfulness. There are so many times I didn’t know what would happen next, but God brought me through. So I needed to have faith and rely on Him to provide for me like He has done so many times before.
God In Uncertainty
Maybe you’re faced with uncertainty today with your job, a relationship, or financially. Remember that Psalms 16:8 I am always thinking of the Lord; and because he is so near, I never need to stumble or fall. Hold this in your heart knowing that when things may be shaky around you are unshakable in Jesus.
A week after turning my housing situation over to Jesus I received a call about a new place that’s available. This home is just down the street from where I live and has everything I wanted plus some. Despite all the fear and anxiety I felt during that uncertain time the Lord provided like a loving Father.
Whenever you’re faced with uncertainty remember that God is still on the throne. He’s the author of our story and has a plan and purpose to every situation we face. He never fails so lean on Him and He will show you the way when life is uncertain.
