In these modern times, we are so used to getting what we want when we want it. We go through drive-thrus to get our fast food even more quickly, we record our TV shows so we can fast-forward through the commercials and use microwaves to “cook” our dinners. Now, there is nothing wrong with these conveniences of modern day life, because I use them myself. However, I think we sometimes make the mistake of expecting our lives to work the same way.
I’m guilty of this myself. Even though I know everything happens when it’s supposed to, I still have those moments when I wonder and ask God: When is this going to happen? Why hasn’t that happened yet? How much longer will I have to wait? What I’ve learned (and am still learning) is that I must trust the process of getting to my dreams and goals. It gets difficult, at times, to keep believing that everything is working together for my good and that I’m really on the right path. If you find yourself dealing with these same feelings, I want you know that you’re not alone and that you can move past that negativity. How?
Trust God. He’s been there as you’ve moved toward your other dreams and goals, right? Trust and believe that He’s there now and will help you get to where you want to be this time.
Remember God’s promises. I recently wrote down some promises/scriptures from the Bible to read over when I feel discouraged. One of my favorites: “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
Recognize how far you’ve come. When you’re working toward achieving new goals, it’s easy to forget about all the accomplishments of your past. But it’s important to recall those times, and know that if you’ve succeeded before, you can do it again!
Know that great things take time. We often see successful people seemingly pop up overnight, especially when it comes to social media. Of course, we know that’s not the case; it takes time to develop true success. If you want to be great, you have to be willing to sow the seeds and put in the time.
Enjoy the journey. Don’t get so caught up in reaching your dreams that you forget about the present. Learn to be content, and enjoy life where you are now.
Always keep in mind that it takes time for our dreams to manifest. Although we don’t know how long it will take, we have to keep trusting and believing that God’s timing is perfect and that our goals will be realized at just the right time.
How have you learned to trust the process?
