It seems like the possibility of experiencing true love has become a thing of the past. Today, the word love is thrown around without any real meaning and people use it to describe just about everything. How can a person know when they have found real love? Is there a sure way to tell?
Women like to talk about relationships and love with our girls, and that’s where this topic started for me. As we talked about finding true love I found myself thinking about the song ‘Real Love’ by Mary J. Blige and how those lyrics are still relevant today. In some way many of us are searching for a love that we can feel and know that the love between us and another person will be protected and nurtured.
I’ve only been in love once and when it happened the I just knew that it was real. I was dating a guy that truly understood me and made me feel comfortable, respected, and appreciated around him. A couple of days after I fell in love with him he told me that he loved me and I said it back to him too .
I had no idea that I was going to fall in love with him, but love is unexpected and sometimes unexplainable. We never know when love is going to happen so we have to be patient and believe that it will come. For Mary J. Blige the real love she was searching for in the 90s didn’t come until 200o when she met Kendu. So when it’s time the real love we are meant to have will find its way to us.
